Driving the Next Era of Sustainable Transport

Rooted in nearly a century of engineering excellence since 1927, Volvo Group has evolved far beyond its Swedish origins, emerging today as a global leader in commercial transport, construction machinery, marine propulsion, and financial services. Headquartered in Gothenburg, with more than 102,000 employees and operations spanning over 130 countries, Volvo orchestrates a seamless blend of scale, innovation, and purpose.

Reinventing Mobility with Electric Momentum

Volvo’s strategic vision for electrification centers on its truck division, which achieved a milestone by delivering over 3,500 electric trucks through its various brands in 2024, collectively saving around 68,000 metric tons of CO₂ compared to diesel models—significant impact from just initial deployment. This momentum is accelerating: the FH Electric long-haul model, promising up to 600 km (373 miles) of range, is set for release in late 2025.

Further cementing its position, Volvo Trucks secured a landmark order for 1,000 electric heavy-duty vehicles from Swiss building materials giant Holcim—its largest to date and a bold statement of commercial confidence.

As a vision for holistic transport electrification, Volvo adopts a three-pronged approach: battery-electric, hydrogen fuel cells, and renewable combustion (biofuels/HVO). By 2040, it aims for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain—a full decade ahead of many industry targets.

Strategic Footprint and International Growth

Not content with incremental change, Volvo is expanding its global footprint. It is constructing a $700 million truck manufacturing facility in Monterrey, Mexico, scheduled to open in 2026, ensuring supply-chain resilience amid shifting trade dynamics in North America. Simultaneously, Volvo continues to develop a battery plant in Sweden, targeting a production capacity meeting the surging demand for electrified heavy vehicles.

Technology Alliances Pushing the Frontier

Volvo is forging ahead on multiple innovation fronts. In June 2025, it joined forces with Daimler to create Coretura—a software-defined vehicle platform aimed at reducing dependency on external suppliers and setting industry standards for connected transport systems.

These efforts are supported by partnerships spanning from H2 Green Steel, which will supply low-carbon steel frames by 2026, to collaborations with Westport and Ovako on hydrogen engines and green fuels. Volvo is also investing in AI-driven logistics solutions, exemplified by its VC-led technology stake in Madrid’s Truckster, to optimize freight operations.

Sustainability in Action

Volvo’s environmental ambition extends beyond products. Its commitment includes decarbonized ocean freight shipments using renewable marine fuels—reducing 55,000 tons of CO₂ annually—and partnerships with celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson to highlight clean-food transport via electric trucks.

The brand also leads in real-world infrastructure: its FM Low Entry electric model is being deployed in Sweden’s PreZero waste management fleet, showcasing practical emissions reduction and quieter urban operations.
