Ferrari, the iconic Italian luxury sports car manufacturer, is poised to unveil its first fully electric vehicle (EV) on October 9, 2025. This milestone represents a significant step in Ferrari’s ongoing journey toward electrification, which began decades ago with advancements in Formula One powertrains.
A Legacy of Innovation
Chairman John Elkann emphasized that Ferrari’s transition to electrification has been a deliberate and strategic process. The company’s experience with hybrid powertrains in Formula One since 2014, and the implementation of Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) since 2009, laid the groundwork for its foray into electric vehicles. Ferrari introduced its first hybrid models in 2019, and by 2024, hybrids accounted for 51% of its car sales, underscoring the growing importance of electrified models in its lineup.
The Maranello ‘E-Building’
Central to Ferrari’s electrification strategy is its new ‘e-building’ facility in Maranello, inaugurated in June 2024. This state-of-the-art plant enables Ferrari to develop and handcraft key electric components in-house, such as electric axles and batteries. The facility enhances manufacturing flexibility, allowing Ferrari to produce a blend of internal combustion engine, hybrid, and fully electric vehicles, thereby meeting diverse client needs.
Commitment to Diverse Powertrains
CEO Benedetto Vigna reaffirmed Ferrari’s commitment to offering a range of powertrains. “In line with our strategy, we continue to invest in all three powertrains—petrol, hybrid, and electric—to offer our clients maximum freedom of choice,” Vigna stated. This approach ensures that Ferrari maintains its heritage of high-performance petrol engines while embracing the future of mobility.
