Pioneering Global Digital Frontiers from Africa

“Our ambition is to be the Lifetime Partner to our customers, offering innovative and personalized solutions.”
Koos Bekker, Chairman of Naspers

Founded in 1915 as Die Nasionale Pers, Naspers Limited has transformed from a South African publishing house into a global powerhouse in the internet and technology sectors. Headquartered in Cape Town, Naspers has strategically expanded its footprint, becoming one of the world’s foremost technology investors and operators, with a presence in over 100 countries.

A Century of Strategic Evolution

Naspers’ journey is marked by visionary investments and strategic foresight. In 2001, the company made a landmark investment in Tencent, acquiring a significant stake that has since become one of its most lucrative assets. This move signaled Naspers’ shift towards the global consumer internet sector, leading to the establishment of Prosus in 2019, a subsidiary that houses its international internet assets and is listed on Euronext Amsterdam.

Financial Performance: Robust Growth and Profitability

In the fiscal year ending March 2024, Naspers reported consolidated revenue of US$6.4 billion, marking an 8% increase from the previous year. The company’s e-commerce segment achieved a consolidated trading profit of US$24 million, a significant turnaround from a loss of US$264 million in FY23. Core headline earnings surged by 88% to US$2.1 billion, underscoring Naspers’ commitment to sustainable growth and profitability.

Diverse Portfolio: Empowering Communities Globally

Naspers’ diversified portfolio spans various sectors:

  • Prosus: Holding significant investments in global tech entities, including a 26.16% stake in Tencent.
  • Media24: Africa’s largest publishing company, offering a range of newspapers, magazines, and digital media.
  • Takealot.com: South Africa’s leading online retailer, providing a vast array of products to consumers nationwide.
  • Naspers Foundry: A venture capital initiative aimed at supporting South African tech startups, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
